The government also launched important infrastructure projects such as roads and bridges in the country. The government set-up a committee to promote Public-Private-Partnerships (PPP) that invites companies to negotiate and bid on work on a variety of infrastructure projects. In the coming years, the building and construction market is expected to continue to grow, given the government‘s priority of addressing the housing shortage and crumbling infrastructure nationwide. Stronger macroeconomic growth and foreign investment (from private and public lending institutions) suggest there wiil be a robust construction sector for the foreseeable future.

Projects

by 2040, there will be a six-lane dual carriage way connecting Abidjan, Ghana, Togo, Benin and Lagos, under the Abidjan-Lagos Eastern Corridor Road Project. The over 68-billion-dollar project is to improve road infrastructure, promote efficient transportation, and ultimately facilitate regional trade. The ECOWAS “Vision 2020” calls for the implementation of an appropriate regional environment in which all citizens of West Africa can circulate freely and easily in order to take care of their activities and business. It aims at the creation of a competitive viable and secured regional economic union with national economies integrated at regional level and able to integrate to global economy

Why Exhibit

The Ivoirian government is planning to build 100,000 low cost housing units by the end of 2018 to address the need of 400,000 new homes (200,000 of which are needed in the economic capital of Abidjan). There are 71 construction sites in progress to address this need, but this will only cover a small portion of overall demand. Building and construction has been one of the leading growth sectors since 2011. Since March 2015, the country has faced an acute shortage of cement due to the increased demand. The four cement producers established in the country have been unable to satisfy the demand despite their 2.9 million metric tons of production capacity. The Ministry of Industry recently announced that four new cement producers will begin operations soon.
